Volume 1 Chapter 30 When Working In Customer Service, It's Important To Have A Smile And Keep Things Clean

Summary of the previous chapter: Shibata-san Tries Posting Illustrations on an Art Sharing Website

Now, although it may have been a bit forceful, I started a plan with Shibata-san to have her post her illustrations on Pixiv and receive feedback to boost her confidence in her artwork.

I still don't know what the outcome will be, though.

And since my job application was approved by school, I can start working part-time today.

I headed straight to "Patisserie And Trois" near the station.

"Good morning. I'll be in your care starting today."

This is my second time meeting the manager, Ikurumi Marie-san.

Just like in the adult industry, in the food and beverage industry, if you have skills, even if you're young, you can advance or start your own business early, but not many people can sustain it for a long time.

The main reason is that the long working hours and the inability to take weekends and holidays off result in a relatively low hourly wage. It's inevitable in the service industry, where it gets busy when regular jobs or days off happen.

"Oh, you came on time. Please come in."

 "Yes, excuse me then."

Following Ikurumi-san, I enter the break room.

"So, let's get started with your work from today. First, please put on the apron (Saron) and bandana."

 "Understood."

"At first, when customers come in, just greet them with 'Welcome,' and when they leave, just say 'Thank you for visiting.' Make sure to do it with a smile."

"Oh, yes. I understand, greetings are essential in customer service. Got it."

"As I mentioned during the interview, you'll start with cleaning the store, kitchen, and miscellaneous tasks like clearing and washing dishes for the eat-in area."

"Yes, I appreciate the opportunity. Thank you."

So, the first thing to do is to remove lint, hair, and dust from clothes using hand washing and adhesive sheets. Basically, we start with cleaning.

And while we were talking about that, another part-time female staff member seemed to have arrived.

 "Good morning!"

 "Good morning."

"Kashiyama-san, nice to meet you from today."

When I said that, Kashiyama-san smiled.

 "Nice to meet you too."

Ikurumi-san, the store manager and patissier, carefully crafts each cake and sweet, while Kashiyama-san replenishes them at the register according to the situation.

It seems that another part-time housewife handles the cash register during weekdays.

The thorough cleaning of the storefront and inside the store should be done before opening, but in small independently owned stores like this, the preparation of sweets, such as dough and baked goods, takes priority before opening, so it's often difficult to clean thoroughly.

Now, I silently polish the glass showcase and the cups for eat-in customers.

To clean the glass of the showcase thoroughly, from wiping with water to removing oil stains, it might take 2 to 3 hours. However, we don't have that much time, so I wipe it with a soft cloth using water and then use a microfiber cloth to dry it off.

By doing this, it helps to clean off even the smallest dirt and streaks.

If there are any tiny spots on the glass, you can use eyeglass cleaner and wipe them off thoroughly.

For glass cups that have cloudy water stains, sprinkle some baking soda on a cloth and polish them. To prevent fingerprints, use two linen cloths, hold one in each hand, and wrap the glass cup as you polish it.

When I cleaned the glass this way, Kashiyama-san seemed impressed.

"Wow, it looks so much better now. I did try to clean it often, you know."

"Using just regular soap doesn't work well for water stains, after all."

"I see, cleaning is harder than I think. Anyway, having a guy around to help is good."

"Cleaning sure can be a tough job."

When we talk about the cleaning, a customer comes in. Okay, just greet them with a smile.

 "Welcome, thank you for coming."

Even when customers leave, I smile and say,

"Thank you very much. We look forward to your next visit."

And then, the store manager Ikurumi-san called out from the back.

"Hata-kun~, can you help me move something?"

 "Yes, I'll go now."

"Sorry, can you take this to the back for me?"

Ikurumi-san pointed to a large bag of commercial flour. Commercial flour comes in 25kg (≈ 55.1 pounds) bags, and other items like salt, sugar, and cornstarch also come in big 25kg (≈ 55.1 pounds) bags, so it can be quite difficult for girls to carry.

 "Yes, I understand."

Well, I don't feel it's that heavy, though.

In the patisserie, we take cake orders from customers, grab cakes from the showcase with tongs, pack them in boxes, and sell them. So, it requires delicate fingers, and it can be surprisingly tough, but I guess I can manage somehow.

"Since it seems like Children's Day on May 5th will be busy, I need to make sure I can assist with customer service more effectively by then."

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We also have a similar genre returned from isekai but has different MC's characteristic. The story is punishing someone who troll in SNS, someone who cheat and many more. You can find out in => [Link]
