Volume 1 Chapter 31 Working In A Patisserie Is Mentally Quite Easy Compared To Working In The Entertainment Industry

Summary of the previous chapter: Inexperienced newcomer part-time job is all about working hard on cleaning.

Well, on the first day, I greeted the customers with "Welcome" and "Thank you" when they came, and it ended with cleaning in between and carrying heavy things like bags of flour for business use.

"Good job on your first day of work. How was it?"

Ikurumi-san asked me, and I answered.

"There was more physical work than I expected, so I was a little surprised, but I find it interesting."

I said that, and Ikurumi-san looked relieved.

"I see. That's good to hear."

And Kashiyama-san was looking at the store manager, Ikurumi-san, with a serious expression.

"After all, it's important to talk properly. Working at a patisserie is unexpectedly physically demanding."

 "Ahaha, yeah, that's true."

Ikurumi-san laughed as if trying to evade the question, but yeah, I guess it would be tough if you started part-time work with a light-hearted attitude and were made to carry bags of flour and stuff like that.

 Especially for girls.

 And then Ikurumi-san asked me.

"Can you come in at 9 am tomorrow and do some cleaning?"

"What time do you start working, Ikurumi-san?"

"I start at 7 am. I need to prepare everything for displaying the sweets by the store's opening time at 10 am, so I have to do the preparations around that time."

"In that case, I'll come at 7 am and do a thorough cleaning."

 "Oh, really? Is that okay?"

"Yeah, I love seeing things clean and sparkling after cleaning."

"Well then, please do. Oh, this cake got a bit deformed, so please eat it since we can't serve it to customers."

And Ikurumi-san handed me a melon shortcake.

"Thank you very much. Let me try it right away... It's delicious. I like how it has a subtle taste of rum and less sugar, and the flavor of the eggs really shines through."

"Ehehe, I try to enjoy the natural taste of the ingredients without using too much alcohol. When I make it, I try not to use machines too much so that it has a handmade warmth and flavor."

 "That's a lot of dedication, isn't it?"

"It's for the sake of our customers' smiles. If we do that, our customers will come back."

 "Oh, that's important."

In this industry, acquiring repeat customers is more important than anything else.

It's difficult to attract new customers, you know.

Moreover, after 5 p.m., they have to start preparing for the next day, close the shop when it's closing time, clean up and tidy up the store, create the next day's shift for employees, review the budget and check the income and expenses. Being an owner-patissier is tough.

When I used to work in the adult entertainment industry, the basic working hours were from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., but in addition to that, there was also morning transportation, and if I got stuck in traffic, there were times when I couldn't return to the store until 7 or 8 a.m., in the worst case.

Furthermore, on someone's day off, I would have to work from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the next day without a break.

Shifts from 5 PM to 7 PM, where both the early and late shifts overlap, allow for some sleep, but working continuously through the shifts was really tough.

In fact, I have "died" from drowsiness.

 And the next day.

 "Good morning."

As promised, I showed up at the shop about 15 minutes before 7:00.

 "Oh, good morning."

"Working on preparations from 7 AM must be tough."

"No, no. 7 AM is a relatively calm time. Even if it's a bit late from this time onwards, during busy periods like holidays, Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, White Day, and other events, it's not enough."

"Well, with a personal business, you can't just hire a temporary pastry chef during those times, right?"

 "That's true."

Ikurumi-san had already come earlier, acting as if it was natural. But being an owner-patissier is tough.

Well, not just here, but pastry chefs working about 15 hours a day is apparently not uncommon.

Now, like yesterday, I started by using hand washing and sticky sheets to remove lint, hair, dust, etc., from clothes. Instead of cleaning the outside of the showcase, I began cleaning the inside of the showcase.

What I do is the same as when polishing the outside.

After finishing the cleaning, it becomes sparkling clean. I feel happy at the thought of showcasing a variety of colorful cakes in this display case.

 "Alright, it looks like this."

Next is cleaning the exterior glass of the store. I use a car washing brush to remove dust, then wipe it with water, use a squeegee to remove water, and finally, finish with a dry wipe using a microfiber cloth.

With this, when people look from the outside, the inside of the store should look even cleaner.

I also clean the restroom inside to make it sparkling clean as well.

While cleaning the showcase, window glass, restroom, etc., Ikurumi-san comes out of the kitchen with freshly baked cakes.

"Oh, it looks very clean. I appreciate it."

"It feels great to make it all sparkling, doesn't it?"

"With this, customers will surely have a pleasant time."

 Then, Kashiyama-san also arrives.

"Wow, the windows are sparkling, and the showcase too. This is amazing."

"Good morning. Kashiyama-san, please take care of things today as well."

 "Yes, same here."

 Ikurumi-san said to Kashiyama-san.

"Let's have him learn about the types of cakes and pastries, as well as the eat-in menu starting today."

 "That's true."

"Huh, isn't it too early for that?"

I said, and Ikurumi-san smiled and said.

"Oh no, we'll have you learn more and more tasks if you're capable."

 And Kashiyama-san also said.

"That's right. You have to remember which cake has what flavor and what ingredients are used. Many people have allergies, so it's important."

"That's true, sweets often use ingredients that can cause allergies."

Working at a pastry shop is challenging but fun because there's a lot to learn.

Unlike in the adult industry, there's no resentment when some cakes don't sell, and there's no need to just listen and nod to complaints.

In the adult industry, since the product is the girl, if she doesn't get many jobs, the atmosphere quickly becomes unpleasant, which I felt firsthand.

Even in the case of a patisserie, it seems that there are some workplaces with bad atmosphere, but here the atmosphere is good and compared to the adult entertainment industry, working in a patisserie is much easier mentally.
