Volume 2 Chapter 48 I Think I Found A Good Teacher To Help Me Make My Own Costume
During my home economics class, I finished making the pants, but then I realized that the waist is too small for me.
There's not much need to adjust the size of kinchaku bags and tote bags, but I felt that making my own cosplay costumes by myself is still hard. So, when I got home, I decided to talk to my mom about it.
"I'm back!"
I said that, and my mom smiled and opened the door for me.
"Welcome home. Dinner is ready."
"Yeah, thanks as always. I'll eat after I change."
After changing from my school uniform to my casual clothes in my room, I went back to the dining room and had dinner while talking to my mom.
"By the way, how have you been feeling, mom?"
When I asked that, my mom smiled and said.
"Oh, I've been feeling much better lately. My blood test results have improved a lot, and the doctor says so too. The neighbors even say my skin looks younger."
"That sounds awesome, doesn't it? By the way, this summer break, I plan to create and wear a costume of a manga character with my friend. We're part of the home economics club, trying to sew our costumes. However, it's pretty tricky for beginners like us. I'm wondering if there's someone who knows about this stuff, maybe someone mom knows? It would be really helpful if she does."
When I mentioned this, my mom smiled and said,
"When you were little, I used to make clothes for you. But after you came home crying from kindergarten, saying, 'They said homemade clothes mean you're poor,' I stopped doing it."
"Oh... I see."
I can't remember, but if it was in the early 2000s when I was little, it wouldn't be surprising if someone said that. It was around the time of the IT bubble, so the economy was supposed to be a bit better.
"Oh, but Satsuki-nee might be good at that kind of thing."
"Saigusa-san is Yayoi-chan's mom, right? She's mom's big sister."
"Yes, that's correct. Originally, your grandmother, or in other words, your great-grandmother, could do anything from Western-style sewing, Japanese-style sewing, embroidery, to knitting. I can still do knitting and embroidery to some extent."
After having dinner and a nice bath, I went back to my room. I wanted to learn how to make my own costumes, especially ones inspired by manga characters. I thought about asking Aunt Satsuki for help, so I called her.
'Hi, Aunt Satsuki? It's me, Akihiro.'
'Oh, hi, Aki-chan! What's up?'
'I have a summer project. I want to make costumes from manga characters. Mom said you might be able to help.'
'I haven't done manga costumes, but I've made clothes, bags, and accessories for myself and Yayoi. I can give you some advice. Go ahead and give it a try!'
'Ah, that would be really helpful. Can I learn next Saturday or Sunday from now on?'
'Yes, that's fine. How about next Sunday? Yayoi will be there too, and we can teach you together.'
'Oh, Yayoi is good at sewing too?'
'Yes, she learned from me, and now she makes her own clothes.'
'I see, that's good to know.'
'Alright, I'll inform Yayoi.'
'Yes, thank you.'
So, it looks like I can learn how to make costumes from experienced people instead of just studying on my own.

- End of July and end of August: Making plans to do homework with Shinonome-san
