Volume 2 Chapter 53 Sometimes It's Not Bad To Chill At A Fast Food Place
Well, the birthday present shopping for Hirose-kun that I did with Gouriki-kun was over without any problems, but it took some time.
It seems like I have a pretty messed up sense of money for a high school freshman, and I don't remember ever giving a present to a guy friend in high school, so I was really glad that Gouriki-kun went shopping with me.
And it was surprising how much time we spent on choosing the present, when I checked the time on my phone, it was already past 1 pm and I was pretty hungry.
I wanted to thank Gouriki-kun and eat something with him.
"Gouriki-kun. It's past lunchtime and I'm really hungry, do you want to eat something light at Mug? I'll treat you as a thank you for helping me with the shopping"
When I asked him that, Gouriki-kun nodded with a smile.
"Yeah, sure. I was getting a little hungry too. Huh? It's also helping me out, so don't worry about treating me."
"Hmm, I guess that's how it is."
"Well then, let's go right away,"
I said as the two of us were about to leave the West Department Store Annex.
"Oh my, Hata-pippi, are you going on a date with a girl again today?"
When I turned to the source of the voice, there was Shinonome-san with a smirk on her face, and Saikachi-san looking a bit dissatisfied.
Saikachi-san had a wrapped box in her hand, so she probably had the same reason for being here as us.
I chuckled and said to Shinonome-san,
"Hey, I was just shopping with Gouriki-kun today."
When I said that, Shinonome-san laughed and said,
"Hehehe. I was just teasing a little bit."
After that, Saikachi-san asked me,
"Why didn't you invite us too?"
In response, I chuckled and replied,
"I thought it might be bothersome to involve you all the time, and I wanted some advice from male friends about what men give to other men, but maybe I should have just invited you?"
Saikachi-san said with a small sigh,
"It's not really bothersome. But if you wanted advice about what men give to male friends, then I guess it can't be helped."
Then Shinonome-san said,
"Are you heading to the Mag now? Treat us too."
It's just like Shinonome-san to casually assume we'll treat them.
I chuckled and said,
"Treat? Well, it's fine. Let's go then."
So, the four of us decided to head to Magg's.
As we walked from the Lost, towards Funabashi station in the south, I asked everyone just to be sure.
"There's this amazing place nearby called Zepindou, where you can have some awesome hamburgers, should we go there instead?"
When I said that, Shinonome-san shrugged and replied,
"Hata-pippi, always trying to act cool. If Hata-pippi says it's amazing, the prices must be quite high, right? And do they have affordable lunch sets or something?"
I was left speechless by Shinonome-san's words.
"Well, it is a bit on the pricier side, and I'm not sure if they have any value lunch sets."
As I responded, Shinonome-san said,
"Well then, I guess we should just stick to the original plan and go to Magg's. I'm not really in the mood for a heavy hamburger meal right now."
Well, I guess you're not in the mood for a big hamburger at this time of day.
That's a bit rude to say, but I think that's Shinonome-san's way of being considerate.
Well, after that exchange, we arrived at Magg.
It was a little past lunchtime, so it wasn't too crowded.
"Welcome. Are you eating in?"
"Uh, yeah. We'll eat here."
"What would you like to order?"
"Um, a Big Magg set and a teriyaki burger by itself. The drink for the set is cola."
"OK. We'll call you by this number, so please wait."
I took the paper with the number on it and stepped out of the line and waited for a while.
The other three also got their orders, and after a while, the number was displayed on the board, so we showed the number at the counter and received it and went up to the second floor.
As I sat at the table, ready to start eating, Shinonome-san asked me:
"Hata-pippi, don't you think having a Big Mac set and a teriyaki burger on the side is too much?"
I feel like Saikachi-san and Gouriki-kun are thinking the same thing.
"Yeah, it might be a bit too much. Well, I think it'll be fine if we have something lighter in the evening, and I prefer having just the Big Mac burger because it's hard to eat otherwise."
I answered like that, and Shinonome-san tilted their head.
"It's hard to eat with just the Big Mac burger?"
I nodded and continued speaking.
"Yeah, the Big Mac has three patties between the buns, along with chopped lettuce and other ingredients. If you eat it carelessly, the buns can shift, the lettuce and sesame seeds can fall out, and the sauce can drip from the back."
Shinonome-san seemed to understand somehow and nodded in agreement.
"Well, it seems like it, right?"
"Why don't we solve all those problems by eating the teriyaki burger first, putting the Big Mac in the empty bag, and eating it like that?"
Shinonome-san, who listened to what I said, nodded with a smirk and said,
"I see. Yeah, that way it seems easier to eat without dropping anything. By the way, if you say 'Please wrap it in a burger wrap' or 'Please wrap it in paper' when ordering, they'll wrap it for you."
I was a little surprised by those words.
"Huh? Is that so? If I had known, there were times when I could have done that."
When I said that, Shinonome-san burst into laughter.
"Well, you're just being stubborn about eating, huh? lol"
Well, maybe that's ultimately true.
"Well, maybe so. By the way, I usually don't drink carbonated drinks, but when I have a hamburger, it's usually a carbonated drink. Like cola or ginger ale, more than oolong tea."
When I said that, Saikachi-san nodded with a wry smile.
"Yeah, for some reason we always order soda drinks in places like this. It's kinda weird."
"Well, when they do surveys in these shops, most people say they want healthy menus, but when they actually introduce them, they don't sell at all. By the way, what did you buy?"
When I asked that, Saikachi-san answered with a smile.
"Yes, I bought a simple handkerchief. Hirose-san has been very nice to me since the first event, the outdoor orientation, so I chose something safe."
"I see, a handkerchief is a good choice. You can never have too many of them, and they don't bother you or make you unhappy."
"What did you guys buy, Hata-kun?"
"We bought a pen case that can stand upright, a mechanical pencil, a two-color ballpoint pen, and a friction pen that can erase."
"I see, you are more practical than anything else, but I think that's a good choice."
"Ah, I'm glad you said that."
It's not bad to chill with Magg and talk about nothing over a mug like this.
I guess dates and stuff make me worry about whether the other person is having fun or not.
