Volume 3 Chapter 4 Invited As Hero
I got this really cool sword called the "Refaid of The Light Dragon Emperor Sword" in the 'Ruins of the Light Dragon'.
It's said to have originally belonged to a legendary hero named Elvain from ancient times.
After he finished his battle with the Demon King, he placed the sword in a tomb.
Later, a high-level dragon settled in the tomb and started guarding the sword, so no one could get their hands on it.
"Hero Elvain is from our Uralis Kingdom."
Said the messenger.
"We heard that you recently got Elvain's sword. In a way, you are his successor. We would like to welcome you to our country."
"Well, in the previous conversation, you said that I belonged to your country..."
Um, I was a bit confused by the earlier conversation, so I asked about my affiliation with their country, during this second recruitment today.
"What exactly do you mean? "
"We would like you to register your nationality and place of residence in our country. Next, we would like you to wear our country's emblem on your clothes and armor. In other words, we want you to be a hero of our country, wielding the legendary sword and protecting the people - that's the kind of image we want."
In other words, I would be their spokesperson.
"What do you think? Of course, we will prepare any reward you desire. We can provide you with money, honor, or even women, if that's what you wish. Hehehe."
Is this a joke or are you serious? The messenger laughed vulgarly.
"I... am satisfied with my current life. I don't feel very enthusiastic about becoming a citizen of your country and wielding a sword as a member of it."

The messenger frowned and asked.
He must have thought I would readily accept.
"With all due respect, I believe that living as a hero of our country would bring a much happier life than belonging to a guild of adventurers who can be easily blown away by the wind."
"...Indeed, this guild may be small, but each of us carries out responsible work to the best of our abilities, and there is warmth here. I won't tolerate any derogatory remarks about 'Blue Crystal', you know."
"Uh..."
The messenger is hesitant.
"Hmph, Uralis still acting all high and mighty towards other countries as usual."
Bernard-san walked over.
"…! Are you perhaps Bernard Zola!? What's the former court magician of Uralis doing in a place like this—"
"Sorry for being in a place like this. 'Blue Crystal' is a comfortable place. At least much more than your court."
Bernard-san snorted.
"Also—don't casually recruit our ace. If you absolutely must, then go through me first. Got it?"
"Guh…!"
The messenger seemed visibly intimidated.
"Well, then, I'll report your refusal to the kingdom. I, I'm done here—"
The messenger hurriedly departed.
"Bernard-san…"
"I couldn't help but defend this guild, that's all."
Bernard-san scratched his head, looking somewhat guilty.
"Ah, that was kind of you. But I was surprised to hear that you were the court magician of Uralis."
"That's a story from the past."
Bernard smiled gently.
"Now, I'm an adventurer here. It suits me much better than serving in the palace."
