Volume 4 Chapter 1 At The Cafeteria
It was early afternoon, and I was in the dining hall inside the guild building.
It's a little late lunch.
While waiting for the ordered menu to arrive,
"Um, would you like to sit next to me?"
"Please, Nina?"
"Hehe, it's also my break time."
Nina sits down next to me, smiling.
A waitress soon brought our food to us.
I had set meal B and Nina had spaghetti.
"The set meals here are always delicious. The price is also reasonable."
"The food here uses plenty of prey caught by adventurers. That's why it's fresh."
We happily proceeded to eat.
Delicious food soothes the soul.
"Hmm?"
"Our guild rank is still low, but Diner Auntie often says that we can't lose to S-class if it's the cafeteria rank."
"It's definitely S-class. It's delicious."
"Hey, you say something nice, don't you?"
A plump woman behind the counter smiled.
"This person is--"
"The 'Diner Auntie' I mentioned earlier. She's in charge of the food here."
"Nice to meet you. Thank you for the delicious meal."
"Oh, you're Rain-san, the one who recently joined the guild, right? They say you're amazing."
"Oh, no, not really..."
"Nina-chan over there seems to be happily talking about you too. Saying you're a wonderful person or something."
"Oh no, please, not you too, lady..."
Nina's face turned red.
"P-Please don't say that in front of the person..."
She covered her face with both hands.
"Um, well..."
I don't know how to react either.
So Nina has been talking about me like that.
"Hahaha, you're so innocent."
The auntie behind the counter laughed heartily.
I suddenly glanced at the kitchen beyond the counter.
A delicious smell wafted through.
But I noticed some signs of repair around the oven, and overall it had a slightly worn-out feel...
"Ah, the kitchen here is a bit worn out, you know. Been using some of these tools for quite a while."
Auntie said.
"Well, the kitchen as a whole has seen better days, but that's where a chef's skill comes in."
She chuckled heartily.
In reality, the food is incredibly delicious.
"I'm sorry. I'll try asking Elsie-san again if we can somehow come up with the repair costs."
Nina bowed her head.
"It's okay, Nina-chan. I'm not blaming you. Of course, I'll talk to the Guild Master too."
Auntie laughed.
"Everyone knows the finances here are tight. We're doing our best in the midst of it all"
"The finances are tight...huh."
What can I do about it? Maybe...build up some achievements after all, I suddenly thought.
