Chapter 31 Things Were Getting Complicated

Chapter 31 Things Were Getting Complicated

"In the distance, Rosalia-san's ancestral home, right? Is that where the clan chief resides?"

 "Yeah, that's right."

As we reached the top of the gentle slope, the path we climbed became more solid and a flat, spacious area appeared. There, I could see a slightly smaller, old house made of sturdy wooden materials, compared to my own estate.

When I think of elves, I imagine houses perched on thick, towering trees. But here, the houses were built using processed building materials on a firmly compacted ground. I realized that it's not wise to judge based on appearances just because their ears are slightly longer. Lesson learned.

Until we arrived here, all I could see were fields with no houses in sight. When I asked Rosalia, she explained that the clan chief's residence is built at the entrance of the settlement. Further back, more houses are scattered where the rest of the villagers live. It seems this arrangement is made to protect against external threats.

In particular, beast called magic beast that has grown to an extent that is impossible under normal circumstances due to the influence of Oso (terrible element). Not only carnivorous beasts, but also herbivorous beasts that ravaged fields began to attack humans. It seems that the chief of the tribe was also responsible for protecting the people of the village from such magic beasts.

Therefore, it is natural that there is a mansion on the outermost side of the village. If people are attacked by a monster, run to the back of the chief's mansion. Apparently this is normal. Therefore, the chief must become strong to protect the people of the village. I see, that's why Rosalia was so good at martial arts and using knives.

I passed by a few people, and I think they thought I was a guest and nodded at me, as I was sitting next to Rosalia, the chieftain. The sun is setting, so I guess they've finished their work and gone home. Is that why there weren't that many people around?

We stopped the carriage at the eaves of the house I called the mansion. It is a rather large and conspicuous carriage. There is a barn and horses are tied up there. I will give them fodder and water. It's easy, just take it out of your inventory.

"Hey, you look beat. 'Recover' (healing spell). You too, take a breather and 'recover'."

You get it, right? I'm just giving these little guys some love. The horses nuzzle against my cheeks.

"Come on in. It's nothing fancy, though."

 "Thanks. Sorry for intruding."

The wooden door is unlocked. Rosalia-san slides it open a bit forcefully, maybe because it's a sliding door and it creaked. Inside, it looks just like the Western-style rooms I know, except the floor is earthen. There's only a table and a bed. I guess the living room and bedroom are separate here.

"Sorry, it's been so long that I can't even offer you tea. Looks like someone comes by to clean on a rotating basis, though."

"It's okay. This one's on me."

I take a cup out of my inventory, pour a drink, and steam rises from the cup. It must be chilly inside the room. Even though it's the chief's mansion, there's nothing really fancy about the decorations. Maybe it's deliberately simple because it's the chief's place.

 "Rosalia-san"

 "Ah, thank you."

"Shall we have dinner soon? Or..."

 "Ah, well..."

"I think we should grab something to eat beforehand. After all, until we arrived here, the people I passed by didn't have fingers like yours, Rosalia-san..."

"Ah, I understand what you're trying to say. Once the meal is over, I will bring them here one by one."

"No, I want you to bring the ones with severe symptoms first. I want to relieve their pain as soon as possible."

 "Well, thank you..."

"There's no need to rush. Eat well and let's start the treatment. If there are about thirty people, we should finish before nightfall."

 "Understood."

"I apologize for the unchanging meals every time."

"No, it's fine. When I come back, I'll cook."

 "Huh?"

"Even though I'm like this, I'm still a woman, you know?"

 "No, I understand perfectly well."

"My mother taught me how to cook before she passed away. I'm actually quite good at it."

 "I-Is that so?"

"Oh, you don't believe me? Just wait and see. I'll surprise you, you know?"

At that time, Rosalia-san, who was crying, has now started showing a little smile. It's probably because I promised to heal the children of this village.

After finishing a light dinner, I start preparing for treatment. I change the position of the table and arrange a line inside the houses where a few people can wait. Rosalia-san went to see the people of the village. It was about time.

 "Tatsuma!"

The door was violently thrown open. As always, I thought it was bold of her, but there was something strange about her tone of voice. Did something happen?

 "What's wrong?"

"It's a terrible situation with our children--"

Anyway, I calm down Rosalia-san. According to her, the damage from the Oso poison was more serious than expected. It seems that not only their bodies, but also the crops have been affected by it.

Last year was better than this year, so they were able to manage by using their savings. The kids in the village (they're like adults to me, but most of them seem older...) were getting thinner, losing strength, and some even got sick and couldn't get out of bed.

"Seriously? Anyway, I have some food and drinks, so please eat. Let's make sure you're full. After that, we'll get them some treatment."

 "Thank you, Tatsuma."

"It's okay. With skewers, bread, dried meat, water, tea, root vegetables, leafy vegetables, I should be able to manage for about 30 people for 7 days. It's not much, but will it be enough?"

 "I... I think it's enough. Really?"

"Yeah, Space Magic is seriously convenient."

I lined up the kids from the village outside the mansion. It felt like a soup kitchen. Some people were holding small children while standing in line. But still, I couldn't see any older people. Maybe they can't move due to malnutrition or Oso poison, or maybe, as Rosalia-san said, only young people are left? Even though they're young, they're probably older than me.

Hello, we have other project about someone who has returned from an isekai. The main character is a hero who has defeated the Demon Lord. However, for some reason, the human-demon war has resumed and will take place in the MC's original world. The MC, unaware of this, meets a Saint from that world and asks them to join the war. But what does the MC say? They refuse. Is it because their love was rejected by the princess when they adventured together in the past or are they simply fed up? And are the MC will join later? You can find out by clicking on the following => [Link]

We have a new work with genre second life. The story is about a former s*x worker who didn't want to be a loner again, and fulfilling his second life. It has a life conflict and the protagonist will solve it one by one. You can find out in => [Link]
