Chapter 16 The Size of the Mesh

Chapter 16 The Size Of The Mesh

"Hey, guess what? Liliurage-san got herself a boyfriend!"

 "Oh, that's so enviable!"

"Yeah, it's true. I wonder where she found him. Life just isn't fair, you know?"

Tomorrow is my day off, so I'll be drinking at the tavern on my way home. Of course, I won't be alone. Julienne-san and I have chosen Mesaja-san and we're drinking in a private booth. It seems like the two of us are drinking together almost every week. I didn't know we had become that close.

When there aren't many requests for Oso (Dreadful Element) poison treatment in the morning, Julienne-san and I often have lunch together. By talking more with women like this, I've started to think that this world isn't so bad after all.

I'm blessed with a wholesome workplace, but compared to when I was in Japan and felt quite lonely, I think I'm living a healthier life now. However, I can't play MMOs or read manga or light novels. I can't even watch anime, so these free nights are incredibly boring. That's why I have to go out for a drink or something, otherwise it's just too tough. There's so little entertainment in this world.

Sitting across from me in the box seat are Julienne-san and Mesaja-san. This tavern not only serves good booze, but the appetizers are also delicious. And the best part is that the drinks here are on the guild tab. It's great to enjoy the company of these two beautiful women while drinking for free.

 "Are you listening, Tatsuma-san?"

Suddenly, Julienne-san leans forward and presses both palms against my cheeks, teasingly squeezing and rubbing. It doesn't hurt, but it makes it difficult to drink. Our faces are close, and I feel a bit shy. But this isn't that kind of situation. The smell of alcohol is quite strong. She must have had quite a few drinks. After finding out that drinks are on the guild tab, she started drinking endlessly...

So, of course, this is just a casual drinking session. It's like my junior at work is using alcohol to vent their frustrations. It's definitely not something seductive. At first, I had some expectations, but it turned out it wasn't like that at all.

 "Really?"

"Boyfriend, huh? A boyfriend. Don't you feel envious?"

 "Yeah, it's unfair. I don't think I'm losing to Liliurage-san-san either."

"You two might think that, but I'm a guy, so I don't really think having a boyfriend is a big deal, you know?"

See, it's not seductive, is it? Besides, I'm a guy. I don't really feel like they want a boyfriend or anything.

 "We're girls, you know?"

 "Is that so?"

Here they come. Mesaja-san joins in as if in sync with Julienne-san. When Mesaja-san speaks, Julienne-san drinks her alcohol as if to encourage her. And then it's Mesaja-san's turn. The two of them raise their glasses high together and turn towards the counter.

 ""Another one, please.""

 Sorry, bartender...

You see, these two are really drunk. But they can hold their alcohol really well. I've never seen them get wasted before. It's like, it's that sieve thing, right? If you were to describe that sieve, it's like the size of the mesh is big enough for one person to pass through.

The alcohol here is not a strong liquor called "fire sake," so I think it's good if it's around 5%. It has a smooth taste and can be easily gulped down like water. I used to be a fan of Western liquor, so this level of strength is like beer to me, it just goes right through me when I go to the bathroom.

Since coming to this world, that tendency has become stronger. No matter how much I drink, it's already gone when I return to my room. Well, I kind of understand the reason for that.

 "Are you drinking?"

Ah, yes... I'm drinking, I'm drinking. Don't pour it into the glass so forcefully, Julienne-san.

 "Yes, yes."

 "That's right..."

While saying that, she forcefully stabs the meat with something like a fork (probably a fork) and pushes it into my mouth, prying it open with my lips. Even though I'm being fed by a beautiful woman, there's no 'ahh' that feels so mediocre and lacking in joy.

 "Yesh..."

This is how my weekend nights always unfold, just like tonight.

 "Do you understand?"

 "It's not fair!"

As this situation continues for a while, both of us are getting pretty drunk...

* * *

I leave the tavern and return to the room, by then the alcohol has mostly worn off. Still not satisfied, I take out the stocked alcohol I put in the inventory last month. Along with that, I grab three skewers on the provided plate. Next to them, some tender dried meat. Now, the solo drinking preparations are complete.

As usual, the alcohol is still hot when taken out. It's still cold. Taking a big gulp, the taste is surprisingly not bad for its price. This might become a habit, and I think there's nothing wrong with drinking alone.

"Yeah, the skewers are delicious. The alcohol is great too!"

From the inventory, I take out the spellbook entrusted to me by Risleyria-san and open the page I was curious about. It turns out to be a 'Spellbook for those who can use Healing Attribute magic.' That's not exactly the title, but that's the kind of content it contains.

Why was I able to read this? I think it's because of something common in stories, a "template." Perhaps it's some kind of "filter for understanding the words of this world." And then, I thought that a high level of magic ability is necessary to be able to read this.

The method for acquiring the magic written in the beginning of the book is to "trace the magic circle with the appropriate technique by hand," and then to "speak the name of the magic written at the top of the magic circle." Since this is a handwritten magic circle, the way to memorize it may differ depending on the spellbook. The appropriate technique is written in this spellbook, but it seems to mean "flowing mana into the hand while tracing the magic circle."

So... First, this. It's an auxiliary spell, but it has no meaning on its own. After activating this, it is necessary to stack it with the target spell. First, it needs to be registered after the Healing Attribute on the "Display Self-Status" screen.

After activating 'Display Self-Status', I let my mana flow through the tips of my right hand's fingers, then slowly traced the magic circle from the top. And finally, I spoke the name of the spell.

 'Pulse (Rhythmic Support Spell)'

Hmm, it's registered. I see. So, this is how you acquire magic in this world. However, whether I can acquire it by trying the correct techniques in the spellbook remains to be seen.

By the way, it's written in the spell that this spell can't be stopped without my recently acquired 'Dispel (Uncurse)'. It's a more serious support spell than I thought. Well, it might be more of a 'curse' than a support spell. When I separated the spell into 'curse' and 'spell', it seemed to have a similar meaning to 'curse'.

Why did I think it was a 'curse'? Well, what do you think would happen if I couldn't dispel it? Probably, it would continue until my mana runs out. If I forget to dispel it, it will run out without fail. I'll collapse and won't be able to move. It's dangerous. Isn't it too dangerous? It's too dangerous, but it seems interesting... Alright, let's give it a try.

 "'Pulse', 'Recover (Healing Spell)'"

Oh, wow. About every 10 seconds, the mana for 'Recover' is decreasing. In other words, 'Recover' is continuously in effect. This is bad. If I'm not used to it... Ah, it feels like the alcohol has worn off. Oops, my eyes are starting to clear up. Wow, what a waste.

"'Dispel'... Phew. It could be dangerous if I use it incorrectly."

Also, I need to get used to this. There's a constant need to keep casting Healing Magic. Ah, it's like leveling up a skill. This is useful, besides 'Pulse', there are some spells that seem a little dangerous. I'll try registering them from tomorrow onwards. Even though I have no idea how to use them.

Well, I'm starting to feel sleepy, so that's it for today. I'll just lie down in bed and close my eyes; I'll soon feel sleepy.

 "――Yawn"
