Volume 1 Chapter 13 The Dungeon's Disturbance

Volume 1 Chapter 13 The Dungeon's Disturbance

 "Haaa!"

 'Kiii!!'

Fatina swung the silver sword she held in her hand, and another goblin fell to the dungeon floor.

 'Kikiii'

The goblins, one after another, charged at her with fierce determination, but she skillfully dodged their attacks and efficiently took them down one by one.

Her swordplay was so dazzling, it was hard to believe that she had only just picked up a sword today.

This must be the effect of her [Sword Saint] skill.

Even if they called it exceptional talent, it was easy to understand.

 "(Death)"

 'Kii!?'

With my Instant Death Magic spell, the last remaining goblin fell.

 "Phew... it's over, isn't it?"

Fatina exhaled as she sheathed her sword.

To be safe, we took a wide detour to avoid entering the forest and headed into the eastern dungeon.

When it comes to leveling up, the dungeon is definitely more efficient than walking through the forest.

According to the story I heard from the shopkeeper, it's strange that no one has encountered that monster after the attack on Fatina village, and there have been no reports of such encounters either.

It suddenly vanished without a trace.

I don't know where it disappeared to, but the fact that such a monster remains uncaught is more dangerous. Currently, Cretia's soldiers and the adventurer's guild are conducting a joint search.

"By the way, Ark-sama can really defeat monsters with a single blow, huh?"

Fatina is not dressed in her usual attire that she wore in Voltana's town, but now she's wearing a silver gauntlet and breastplate over her thick clothes.

Since she's still at level 1, I thought this equipment would be heavy, but the shopkeeper said not to worry, as her level will increase quickly.

"It may not be effective against opponents with resistance and there are various conditions, but if successful, it seems to be a single blow for now."

On my way here, I explained to Fatina about my skills without hiding anything.

I mentioned that leveling up my skills allows me to consume points and acquire new abilities.

I thought it would be better to explain these things before forming a party.

Fatina didn't seem particularly surprised and just said, "So you have some unusual abilities!"

(I wonder if I was overthinking about not telling anyone.)

"Oh, by the way, I feel lighter and more energetic on the way. What could it be?"

"That's probably a level up. I feel the same way when my skill level increases."

"So, if I continue like this, I can become stronger, right?"

Today's goal is solely to level up Fatina.

Since the monster's level doesn't increase unless the person defeats it, I will focus on being a support role.

However, I didn't expect Fatina to have such abilities.

With this, she would stand a chance against the monsters in the upper layer.

So, should we aim for the middle layer next?

"By the way, there are so many monsters in this dungeon!"

Fatina said while brushing off the dust from her clothes.

Actually, I was also curious about it.

(Something's strange, there are clearly a lot of monsters)

As soon as we entered the dungeon, twenty goblins appeared.

That's twice the number compared to when I first visited.

We're not the only ones going into the dungeon; there should be many other adventurer parties as well.

Yet, it's strange how such a large number emerged from somewhere.

 "...Huh? That's odd."

 "Ark-sama, is something wrong?"

"No, the number of goblins doesn't add up."

For some reason, there were only seven goblins left on the ground.

I'm not using the 'Coffin of the Dead,' and Fatina isn't supposed to do anything either.

In other words, it means that the rest has disappeared somewhere.

 (What does it mean...?)

"Ark-sama, I can hear someone screaming and sounds like something is happening ahead."

While saying that, Fatina points further into the dungeon.

 "A voice? I don't hear anything."

"The Werewolf Tribe has good ears. Oh, I heard it again."

Fatina says while moving her ears covered in pure white fur.

From here, it's almost a straight line to the safe zone we visited before.

I wonder if another party is fighting.

 "Alright, let's go."

 "Yes!"

We run deeper into the dungeon.

And after a while, we hear voices of people and sounds colliding from ahead.

The first thing we saw was an orc.

The number of monsters is not a mere few.

There are probably more than thirty in total.

Amidst the gathering gazes of the orcs, a party of four adventurers, each wielding a weapon, stood at the center.

'Why are there so many of them!'

'Darn it! There's no end to this!'

'We'll break through their formation and take them down one by one! Don't stray too far!'

Seeing this, I draw my broadsword from my waist, and charged into the horde of orcs.

It was a secondary weapon given by the shopkeeper.

 "(Death)"

 'Gbuoooh!!'

Casting Instant Death Magic, I swiftly defeated another orc with his broadsword.

 "Guaaah!!"

Unlike Fatina, I don't have the skill to wield a sword proficiently, but due to the difference in status, just slashing at the orcs can inflict sufficient damage.

When defeating monsters with the broadsword, the effect of 'Soul Retrieval' does not activate.

However, casting Instant Death Magic on each individual takes too much time, so this time, it would be quicker to run through and slash them down.

 "Ha!"

Without hesitation, Fatina also charges into the horde of orcs. With each defeat, her movements become more agile.

The two of us continue to slash through the group of orcs.

Together with other adventurers, we manage to annihilate all the orcs.

 "Are you okay?"

As I call out to them, the four of them drop their weapons to the ground and slump down, exhausted.

"Th-Thank goodness... Oh! You're the one from the guild, right?"

Seeing me at the guild must be referring to when I registered as adventurers.

Even though it was just a few days ago, it already feels like a distant memory.

"Uh, I-I'm sorry! Back then, I laughed at you, calling you the weakest adventurer..."

The man apologizes while shedding tears on the spot.

"I don't care about that anymore. So don't worry about it either."

 "Ugh... I'm really sorry!"

"By the way, why were there so many orcs?"

"I-I don't know... They suddenly appeared from the dungeon walls, and the orcs swarmed in."

Another armored adventurer responded in that way.

 Monsters emerging from the walls?!

Glancing at the ground, the number of fallen foes was indeed fewer than before, just like the goblins from earlier.

Does this mean that the dungeon itself is generating these monsters?

Even so, that shouldn't have been the case until now.

"Something's not right. For now, we should get out of here. Can you walk?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's go, everyone."

The adventurers sprinted toward the dungeon's exit.

We watched their backs as they left.

"There might be other adventurers still here. There's a safe zone ahead, so let's head there."

 "Got it!"

Descending the stairs ahead, we entered the safe zone of the Hollow Forest.

 'Oh no! Run!'

 'Why are there ogres here?!'

There, a muscular, red-skinned monster with short horns, an ogre that shouldn't appear on the upper layer, was chasing the fleeing adventurers.

The monster in the middle layer seems to be able to move even in the safe zone of the upper layer.

 'Gaaaah!!'

The ogre approaches the adventurers who are there and tries to punch them.

The adventurers continue to avoid it and run away.

 "I'll go!"

Fatina draws her sword and approaches the ogre.

Then, while running, she slashes at its ankle.

 'Grooooaah!!'

As a result, the ogre kneels down in pain.

Fatina uses the ogre's body as a foothold and quickly climbs up, then thrusts a silver sword into its forehead.

The ogre falls to the ground without uttering a word, completely motionless.

Even though she had just become an adventurer, it was an incredibly rapid growth to be able to defeat a C-rank ogre.

It must be due to the increase in status from [Sword Saint] and [Growth Enhancement].

"T-Thank you so much! I'm saved!"

"Anyway, you should definitely get out of this dungeon right away."

 "Oh, thank you so much!"

The adventurers walked outside with their injured comrades.

 "Ark-sama, what should we do?"

"Let's go back for now. It's not the time to level up."

Something is about to happen in this dungeon, or rather, in Voltana.

Despite the bad feeling, we decided to temporarily return to town.
